the terms ‘pitch’ and volume to describe sound Loud sounds are produced by large vibrations & quiet sounds by small vibrations. Sound can be different due to difference in pitch. Pitch is how ‘high’ or ‘low’ a sound is. A ‘high’ sound has a high pitch . A ‘low’ sound has a low pitch. The scale in music shows a range of pitch. |

| 4 | What effect does size of vibration have on loudness of sound? Twang a guitar string and observe the relationship between how hard it is twanged and how loud the sound is. The larger the vibration, the louder the sound should be. |

Collect similar glass bottles, put different volumes of water in them. Tap
the bottles with a hard object e.g. a pencil using the same force. Discuss the differences in the pitch of the sound produced. What caused the differences in pitch? |
