EF-F1.3 Describe the relationship between pitch & frequency
and between loudness & amplitude
Use an oscilloscope and a microphone to examine sound waves.
State that :- State that the height of the trace is called the amplitude.
State that louder sounds have bigger amplitudes.
State that the frequency of a sound is the number of vibrations per second.
State that the frequency of a sound is measured in hertz.
State that the greater the frequency of vibration the higher the pitch of the sound we hear.

1 Use Signal Generator, loudspeaker and CRO. Can look at signal on CRO and hear it from speaker. Get class to make drawings of the signal for loud/quiet/high/low.
2 Use a keyboard connected to speaker and oscilloscope to demonstrate link between appearance of waves and sound heard.
3 Ask pupils to describe sounds in terms of loudness and pitch from appearance of oscilloscope trace.
