Give examples of physical factors that affect the distribution of living things

State that a physical factor affecting the distribution of living things is the result of the non-living environment.
State that a biological factor affecting the distribution of living things is the result of the living things in environment.
Describe two physical factors affecting the distribution of living things from the following :-
  • light
  • temperature
  • pH
  • wind
  • moisture
  • oxygen content

1 Examine a range of common plants and identify an important environmental factor that affects their distribution.
2 Fieldwork using quadrats, dataloggers/probes etc. to investigate the the effect of moisture, pH in different soils and the light reaching surface on the variety and abundance of plants.
3 Design and carry out an investigation into effect of pH, light, temperature, moisture on growth of cress or mustard.
