ES-E3.5
Describe what happens when metals react with oxygen, water and acids
Describe the reactions of different metals with oxygen, water and dilute acid.
State that these reactions give an indication of the reactivity of the metal.
Use idea of reactivity series to explain displacement reactions.
Relate the reactivity of metals to their uses to include aluminium, zinc, iron (steel), lead, copper, silver and gold.
Explain why some metals are found uncombined in the earth while most are found as compounds (ores).
State that corrosion is a chemical reaction which involves the surface of a metal changing from an element to a compound.
State some ways to slow down or prevent corrosion.
