Context

At the end of the first section of their unit on the American West, Alex's class were given questions to assess their knowledge and understanding.

1) Why did the settlers move west?

2) What did most settlers think of the Native Americans?

3) Why was Westward expansion important?

Commentary

People in the Past - Level E1.1, E1.2, E1.3

The class teacher designed these questions to assess attainment of these specific targets. Alex's answers fulfil the requirements of these targets, although his answer to question 1 is fairly thin.

Suggested Activities

This is an example of strong Level E work. Judging from the quality of his work, Alex should be capable of attempting Level F work. He could be encouraged to use these answers as the framework of an extended piece of writing. (F1.1).
