Context

As part of their unit on The Scottish Wars of Independence, Megan and her class were asked questions about the Declaration of Arbroath. The teacher designed the questions specifically to assess the class's understanding of the concept that a society's awareness of its past can affect its present and future.

The questions allow Megan to show that she understands this concept. In this case, Scottish awareness of the content and purpose of the Declaration of Arbroath has an effect on current Scottish attitudes and institutions.

Megan could study the actual consequences of the Declaration of Arbroath, in the light of its current iconic status.
