USING ICT - DIGITAL MICROSCOPE (QX3)

A digital microscope allows an image to be viewed by a group of pupils at the same time on the computer screen. The image can also be projected on to a white board to increase size. This eliminates the need for pupils to ‘wait their turn’ and problems of focusing to individual eyesight.

Images can be discussed in groups with pupils taking turns at adjusting the microscope focus and magnification.

Most Digital Microscopes can :-

  • take snapshot photos

  • take short movies

  • take time lapse photos

  • import and export images

  • edit images

  • print images

Software allows snapshot pictures to be stored for use in reports, for reference, use in slide shows and can be manipulated in a painting program.

The opportunities for use of Digital Microscopes in ‘Living Things’ are immense. Examination of plant growth by time lapse, mini beast movement in movies and animal skins with snapshot engage pupils’ interest in their learning.
