PRIMARY HEALTH AND SAFETY GUIDELINES

Teachers and pupils need to be aware of how to reduce risks involved in activities in science. Teachers will have different staff development needs which need to be identified and addressed.

It is suggested that primary schools use ‘Be Safe (Third edition) Health And Safety In Primary School Science And Technology’ as their Health and Safety guidelines.

This can be used supported by training from SSERC.

Individual local authorities may have their own primary health and safety guidelines. Therefore it is important to be familiar with these.

All activities must be risk assessed, and these risk assessments can be carried out using the ‘Be Safe’ manual.
