Quality Questioning

CHALLENGING RESPONSES

By challenging correct answers, the teacher is able to check levels of security. Incorrect responses can be used to seek other suggestions.

Questions that can be used when a pupil has given a wrong answer might be :-

Can you explain why you think that?          Does anyone agree with this answer?       Does someone have a different answer?

What do you think the answer could be?        Do you think …………?

ENCOURAGE PUPILS TO ASK QUESTIONS

  • Planning time for pupils’ questions and for dealing with them effectively.

  • Modelling questions for pupils to create questions – they have examples of how to develop the skills of questioning for themselves.

  • Encouraging pupils to create their own questions.
