Quality Questioning

NO HANDS UP

This technique encourages the expectation that all pupils should have an answer. This rule can completely change the dynamic in the classroom. Unless specifically asked, pupils know not to put their hands up if they know the answer to a question. All pupils are expected to be able to answer at any time, even if it is ‘I don’t know’.

Pupils cannot avoid being asked by not putting up their hand.

Classroom discussions are often dominated by a few individuals but when no hands are shown everyone has an equal opportunity and an equal responsibility.
