CHECKLIST FOR QUALITY LEARNING

The pupils in the clip are shown revisiting their negotiated STOP list (i.e. their standard operating procedures). These are rules discussed and agreed after a challenge activity on building a tower had not produced a quality product. This particular challenge is set up in order to show pupils that they must have an operating procedure to work together successfully. This particular group of pupils decided that their standard operating procedure would be :-

  • choose a facilitator per group

  • develop a way to listen and talk (to allow quality listening and talking)

  • set a timeline

  • chunking the challenge

  • brainstorm

  • give roles

  • check for agreement

  • revisit and check against criteria

These rules are written and displayed above the teacher’s board. They are revisited when the class undertake a challenge.
