Strands & Targets in Guidelines

This is the Target Group Menu for a group of targets from the Science Framework for Planning
Group 26 Energy Flow & Living Things
This way for Group 27 - Towards Evolution

How do plants make food using the energy from the Sun? Many animals depend on the food from plants for their energy requirements. Other animals in turn depend on these plant-eating animals for their energy. What are the survival relationships between animals & plants and how can the balance be upset?
Big Idea
- What are we doing to the Earth and how can we prevent permanent damage?

Science - Interactive Guidelines Curriculum for Excellence - draft outcomes
CfE  (Planet Earth - Biodiversity) (Level Third) - SCN 302B - Having investigated the process of photosynthesis I can contribute to a presentation on why plants are vital to sustaining life on Earth, and can evaluate other presentations.
CfE (Topical Science) (Level Third) - SCN 332BB - Through research and group discussion, I have contributed to an evaluation of a media item with regard to its scientific content.

Target Menu Environmental Studies - Science component - Attainment Target ES Target Code

Living things and the processes of life
 The processes of life

This way for development of target LT-E2.3

Identify the raw materials, conditions & products of photosynthesis

LT-E2.3

CfE  (Energy in the Environment - Energy transfer) (Level Second) - SCN 214F - I can use my knowledge of food chains and webs to help plan, create and protect a wildlife area. (see also Group 5)

Interaction of living things with their environment

This way for development of target LT-E3.1

Construct and interpret simple food webs and make predictions of the consequences of change

LT-E3.1

This way for development of target LT-F3.1

Construct and explain food pyramids

LT-F3.1
Future Learning (progression) -   G32 Biotechnology       G33 Cells
St. Biology: The Biosphere, The World of Plants         INT1 MER: Unit 2 Ecosystems
INT1 Chemistry: Unit 3 Chemistry and Life

CfE  (Planet Earth - Biodiversity) (Fourth) - SCN 407B Bio - I can present a case for how the application of scientific knowledge can be used to feed the Earth’s population and debate the associated moral and ethical issues.
CfE  (Planet Earth - Biodiversity) (Fourth) - SCN 408B Bio - I have propagated and grown plants using a variety of different methods. I can compare these methods and develop my understanding of their use commercially.
CfE (Topical Science) (Level Fourth) - SCN 443BB ALL - I have researched a new development in science and can show how its current or future application might impact on modern life.
CfE (Topical Science) (Level Fourth) - SCN 444BB ALL - Having selected a scientific theme of topical interest, I can critically analyse the issues, and use relevant information to develop an informed argument.
